Who We Are

Who We Are

Our Foundation

We opened our doors in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1959 and quickly built a reputation for excellence. Over the years, we expanded nationwide, marking a key milestone in 1987 with our entry into the Greater Washington Metro Area.

In 1992, we became a locally owned business—strengthening our community ties while upholding the high standards that defined our first three decades. Since then, we’ve continued to deliver quality construction services, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative solutions.

Where Trust Builds Excellence

R.W. Murray Co. is a privately-held commercial general contractor in Manassas, VA, whose foundation is built on safety, quality, excellence, and ethics. We offer pre-construction, design-build, and general contracting services to suit your project needs whether large or small, including base building, renovations, and interior build-outs.

We sincerely value and appreciate our trusted partnerships with commercial developers, building owners, government contractors, business owners, and their representatives. Our portfolio is a reflection of their success and includes commercial, industrial, health care, educational, retail, self-storage, technological, fitness, and recreational facilities across the Greater Washington Metro Area.

Leadership

Our executive team leads by example, fostering a culture rooted in trust, accountability, and commitment. As both motivators and mentors, they are approachable, dependable, and deeply attuned to the needs of our Clients and team members. With a focus on strengthening relationships and building a cohesive team, they consistently champion our shared values—dedication to our Clients, our team, our families, and our community.

Our Process

Quality of Customer Service Indicators

We track our performance year round.

It’s all about your WOW! Factor. At the close of each project, we send a brief seven-question survey to evaluate your experience and determine whether you’d refer us to a friend or colleague.

Since 2003, we’ve used the Net Promoter Score (NPS) to measure Client loyalty and team performance. These indicators help us reward our team for exceptional service, identify and engage our top promoters (like you!), and forecast company growth. High scores mean shared success—for you, for us, and for future Clients.

Ours exceeds the industry standard.

Our comprehensive Above & Beyond Assurance Program offers added value by extending peace of mind well beyond the standard one-year manufacturer and builder warranties.

We provide ongoing warranty assistance for issues resulting from unsatisfactory original workmanship or defects due to improper installation, for as long as you remain the original facility owner. While issues of this nature are rare, you can feel confident knowing we’ll be there if you need us.

Safety first. On the jobsite. In the office. At home.

We take pride in our exemplary safety program. Each year, we voluntarily undergo a rigorous evaluation developed and administered by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

We are consistently recognized for outstanding performance, most recently earning ABC’s highest honor—the STEP Diamond Award for 2025—and the Accredited Quality Contractor (AQC) designation since 1997.

Awards are based on Client satisfaction and jobsite safety – not profitability.

Our project teams are rewarded based on Client satisfaction and jobsite safety through a unique Project Incentive Plan—driven by high customer service goals, not project profitability.

This approach encourages long-term relationship building and ensures our team stays focused on the Client rather than the bottom line. While financial consultants often recommend tying bonus plans to profitability, we’ve proven that a program rooted in ethical behavior delivers lasting success.

It’s a lifestyle. Not just an exercise.

For our project teams to succeed, it must be second nature to quickly “click” and perform in a fast-paced environment. That’s why team building is essential to our company’s culture—not just occasional exercises or a yearly picnic, but ongoing, intentional interaction throughout the year.

It's how we keep our team moving forward

We actively encourage industry involvement and continuous learning by supporting professional memberships, development courses, and continuing education. Our team is provided time and opportunities for industry and community volunteering, graduate program tuition reimbursement, and participation in mentoring and leadership programs.

Achievements and new credentials are recognized, rewarded, and celebrated.
