Project Overview:

R.W. Murray Co. was selected as the design assist contractor to perform the interior build-out for the corporate headquarters of BoatUS, GEICO’s specialty insurance branch. Located in Springfield, Virginia, this build-out totals 63,240 SF on the ground level and mezzanine. During the course of construction, the shell plans, which were originally concepted as a flex warehouse, had to be reconfigured in just six weeks. In order to minimize demolition and prevent rework of crucial shell components, an extensive amount of coordination was required between the general contractor and the tenant’s corporate design team. As corporate headquarters, the space is designed to provide multiple functions with its large open office spaces, some of which serve as a call center, and enclosed office areas, along with conference facilities, training rooms and warehousing. In addition, several employee amenities were included, such as fitness center and locker rooms, commercial kitchen and a large lounge/break room. The construction required a complete MEP system that included six rooftop HVAC units, totaling more than 190 tons of cooling, as well as a VAV system for controls, a 3000-amp electrical service with full generator back-up and an extensive lighting and controls package. The finished space includes stone flooring and a layered circular ceiling in the entry lobby. The finishes convey a modern open work environment, without being over the top.
