Prince William Ice Center Selects R.W. Murray Co. to Rebuild Facility
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – October 13, 2010 – Prince William Ice Center owners Bill and Pat Hutzler are pleased to announce that they will be rebuilding their facility in Woodbridge, Virginia. Leading this effort will be local general contractor, R.W. Murray Co. of Manassas.
Originally built in 1996, the facility housed the only year-round ice skating rinks in Prince William County. Prince William Ice Center collapsed on February 6, 2010 due to the weight of the heavy snow the area experienced during that month. The collapse was devastating to the community and the owners are excited to be rebuilding a new full-service facility and bring the area’s skating community back ‘home’.
The new and improved 70,000 square foot facility will feature NHL and Olympic rinks, a full-service pro shop, a café featuring new menu items, private party rooms and free WiFi in public spaces. The new rink will also use the latest in energy efficient technologies including waste heat reclamation and new electric Olympia ice resurfacers. The owners are extremely excited to offer several new programs for all ages, including Skating for Life as well as returning programs in hockey, figure skating and speed skating.
“We know that the loss of our facility has been a huge hardship for our skating community and we are thrilled to finally be moving forward with our goal of rebuilding PWIC. We are very excited about the new facility, the programs that we have planned, and how much we will be able to better serve our customers,” said Pat Hutzler.
Steve Daves, president of R.W. Murray Co. adds: “Prince William County is our home community and we are extremely excited about the opportunity to join the owners of the rink in their efforts to rebuild this important community landmark.” Local design firms Morgan Gick McBeath & Associates and Rinker Design Associates, PC bring their expert design services to the team for the project.
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place in November on the site in Woodbridge with an anticipated completion in the summer of 2011.
