R.W. MURRAY CO. ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP TRANSITION
Completing 10-Year Succession Plan
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA – February 13, 2009—R.W. Murray Co., a privately held commercial general contracting firm, announced today two key appointments on their management team. Stephen Daves, a 20-year veteran of the firm has been named president and Charles Loving, who joined the firm 14-years ago, will assume the role of chief executive officer. Bill Fairchild, former president will remain as chairman to concentrate on long-term strategic growth.
Initiating his succession plan a decade ago, Mr. Fairchild identified two exceptional leaders -- Daves and Loving, who possess the values and integrity necessary to ensure R.W. Murray Co.’s guiding principles remain intact. Since joining the firm in 1989, Mr. Daves has been involved in the management and construction of over 3 million square feet of shell building projects and 4 million square feet of tenant interior projects in the Washington Metropolitan area; while also mentoring the firm’s project management team. He is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University’s Building Construction program, actively participates on a number of industry Board’s, and has been instrumental in working with Prince William County to streamline their development services. In his new role as president, Mr. Daves will be responsible for the overall management of the firm including strategic planning, operations, and the development and implementation of strategies to ensure efficiency, quality, exceptional service, and cost-effective management of resources.
With more than twenty 20-years of construction experience, Mr. Loving has managed over 4.5 million square feet of base building projects and over 5 million square feet of tenant improvements in the Washington metropolitan area. Throughout his career, he has held positions ranging from assistant superintendent to president. Since joining R.W. Murray Co. in 1995, Mr. Loving’s efforts have been key to recruiting and training exceptional field superintendents. His financial acumen has enabled the company to remain profitable despite changing market conditions. Mr. Loving is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Master of Business Administration. In his new role as chief executive officer, he will provide the vision necessary for long term growth and profitability while also guiding the overall operations of the firm.
“Steve and Chuck exemplify the basic principles, culture and client-centered approach which define our core values,” stated Bill Fairchild, chairman of R.W. Murray Co. “They have embraced their new roles with energy and enthusiasm to ensure success for the R.W. Murray Co. team,” Fairchild continued.
